Swarm is a decentralized storage and communication system on the Ethereum blockchain.
On Ethereum blockchain, Smart contracts realized distributed logic, Swarm implemented distributed data storage, and Whisper achieved distributed messaging, enabling message intercommunication between smart contracts, thereby making it possible for the born of more complex DApps.
Swarm’s decentralized content storage and distribution service can be regarded as CDN that distributed on computers via the Internet. You can run a Swarm node and connect to the Swarm network just like running an Ethereum node. This is similar to BitTorrent and IPFS, which use ETH as rewards. The files are broken down into blocks, distributed and stored by participating volunteers. Those nodes that provide services for storage and blocks receive ETH as rewards from those nodes that need storage and data retrieval services.
The ΞTHΞЯSPHΞЯΞ project launched by the Swarm team aims to create a platform for sharing, publishing, and distributing articles about the advanced research of Ethereum technology and ecosystem, so to promote collaboration between groups and individuals.
Swarm can be said to be the official part of the Ethereum project, mainly developed by the Ethereum Foundation, allowing mining pool storage, bandwidth and computing resources to support applications based on the Ethereum network. The team tried to create a point-to-point storage and service solution that was non-stop, zero-failure and anti-audit, and created an economic incentive system within Swarm to promote the exchange of resource value. The project uses different protocols and technologies in the Ethereum blockchain.
