This guide shows how to change the Google Authenticator linked to your XT account via the mobile app.
Before you start
If you still have access to your current Google Authenticator app, you can use the Change Google Authenticator option to update or re-link your authenticator (for example, when switching to a new device). This allows you to modify your existing 2FA setup without performing a full reset.
However, if you have lost access to your Google Authenticator app or backup key, you won't be able to update it this way, as verification via the current authenticator is required. In that case, please follow the Reset Google Authenticator process, which involves additional security verification to safeguard your account.
Change Google Authenticator on XT app
1. Log in to your account and tap the [Account Center] icon in the top left corner.
2. Select [Security Center], then tap [Google Authenticator].
3. To proceed, tap [Change Google Authenticator] and complete the required security verification.
4. Launch the Google Authenticator app and tap the [+] button. Select [Scan a QR code] to scan the QR code. If you are unable to scan it, choose [Enter a setup key] and enter the code manually.
5. Enter the 6-digit code from the app to verify and complete the reset.
6. You have successfully updated Google Authenticator for your XT account.
Important: After resetting your Google Authenticator, withdrawals and P2P trading will be disabled for 24 hours to ensure asset security. The restrictions will be lifted automatically after this period.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Can I change Google Authenticator if I no longer have access to my old Google Authenticator?
No. To change Google Authenticator, you must have access to your current Google Authenticator app to complete the required verification. If you no longer have access to your authenticator or backup key, you will need to reset Google Authenticator instead. This reset process requires additional security verification to ensure your account remains protected.
2. Can I use the same QR code or key for multiple devices?
No. Each QR code and setup key is unique and intended for a single setup. For security reasons, you must generate a new QR code and setup key when linking Google Authenticator to a new device.
3. What should I do if my QR code isn’t working?
Manually enter the key into your authentication app instead of scanning the QR code.
4. What if my new authenticator app doesn't generate valid codes?
Google Authenticator generates a new 6-digit code every 30 seconds. Ensure you enter the current code before it expires. If the code is invalid, wait for the next code to generate and try again. If the issue persists, check that your device time is correctly synchronized.
5. Can I use other authentication apps instead of Google Authenticator?
Yes, however, please make sure that you use applications (OTP) from highly reliable developers and avoid any risks.
6. What happens to my account security if I change Google Authenticator?
Changing Google Authenticator does not impact your account security as long as the new authenticator is properly set up and verified.
7. Will there be any restrictions after changing Google Authenticator?
Yes. To protect your assets, certain account functions like withdrawals and P2P trading will be temporarily disabled for 24 hours. Restrictions lift automatically afterward.
8. What should I do if I lose my phone with Google Authenticator installed?
If you lose your phone, use the backup key you saved during setup to restore your Google Authenticator on a new device. If the backup key is unavailable, follow the steps in this guide to reset it.
